A day spent Finding Fanny at Regal Cinema

I had decided to watch Finding Fanny by just the poster, I didn’t even bother to check the trailer before watching. It’s a simple, nice movie. Way different than the usual bollywood movies. As of Regal Cinema, I had never been there but the timings suited us so we went there. The first thing that surprised me were the ticket prices, ₹100/- for stall, ₹150/- for balcony and ₹200/- for dress seats(I have no idea what that is). Obviously we were late so we got the stall tickets, and trust me they were pretty decent seats. The crowd was decent a mix of old parsi couples and teenagers, there was one aunty who started clapping when the movie started and I knew just then that I was in for a ride. She laughed out loud at every joke (even the silly ones) but it was a delight.

The theater is huge and has a vintage touch to it, it was like going back in time. Even the food available was limited, standard coke, popcorn,lays and samosa and needless to say everything was super cheap. I love popcorn especially while watching a movie but spending ₹150/- something for that is stupid.  

For the first time I was hooked on to Naseeruddin Shahand completely ignored the main leads (Arjun Kapoor and Deepika Padukone) not that they were bad, but Naseeruddin Shah was brilliant. The movie has some very witty dialogues, simple narration and no over the top acting. The entire feel of the theater is vintage and that added to the entire experience as the movie and theater complimented eachother.

A walk down colaba causeway  for some shopping (bought a grey embrodered top, some bangles and earrings) and dessert at Theorbroma made for a perfect Saturday evening.

Gulaab Gang - Movie Review

I just have one word for the entire experience – Unsatisfactory! With all the hype and with a star cast of Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla I expected a much better experience. I honestly feel that a biopic on Sampat Pal would have had a better influence and a better impact than this frictional character which we know has its roots in Sampat Pal.

 The story goes for a toss after the first half hour of the movie. The screen play doesn’t do much to hold the audience’s attention.

 The songs are another irritating part of the movie… aren’t we over the phase where songs were a “Must Have” in a movie? All the songs in the movie are unasked for and ruin the remaining seriousness or the logical link that the movie has.

 I was waiting for at least one scene that would make me go WOW! But unfortunately that didn’t happen.

 I honestly think Juhi Chawla did a better job than Madhuri Dixit here, she was able to do justice to her character.

Even as I write this I can only think of things I can criticize so ill just keep it short and say go watch Queen instead of Gulaab Gang. (I haven’t seen Queen but Internet is all praises about it)

A Negative India

India has always been known for its rich culture, varied religions, food, language etc sadly in the last couple of years India is also being potrayed in bad light. Women safety is no doubt a big question that every Indian girl faces. It started with Delhi being called the “Rape Capital of India” on social media sites. And people’s anger did kind of calm down by showing their frustration and cursing the government online. But what disturbed me today and made me write this post is this BBC documentary that I came across on Youtube - India A Dangerous Place to Be a Woman. 

 India was knows for its culture right? Culture also includes respecting women! India was always critised for its old school thinking about women but actually naming it a Dangerous Place to be a Women? Omg! I never thought that there will come a day when ill see something like this. The documentary is also wonderfully made in which the host goes and actually talks to people who have gone through eve teasing.

 

This very documentary makes me shudder, Mumbai is a safe city that way but you never know what it will be like 5years from now. It makes me wonder if I would have the same freedom I have now then. It makes me wonder if my future daughter is going to be born in same safe India that grew up in, and trust me the thought isn’t romantic. It actually makes me shudder.  

 

About time to ban the Victoria’s?

Let’s take a ride on the horse Carriage,  he said.

No, I can’t do that, I feel bad for the horses already that they have to pull so much weight while the humans have the time of their life. But I won’t do that, She said.

It was their 4year anniversary and as the ritual they had gone to Gateway of India, where they had their very first official date.

Horse carriages or Victoria’s ( as I recently came to know what they are called) has been a part of Gateway of India for a long time now. But the recent controversy being that it should be banned as it is a cruelty to the animals, I kindof agree with the cruelty part, but I wont support the band wagon of banning them altogether. Yes but some rules has to be laid down regarding the welfare of the animals. Such carriages are there abroad as well, but with their owners taking proper care of them and with some rules which looks on to that the animals are kept well, we can do something like that in India also right?

A complete ban doesn’t seem legit as it has been a part of Mumbai for a long time now, yes some changes and some ways to improve it are definitely welcomed. Also some monetary aid for the owner of these Victoria’s could be beneficial as that will allow them to take good care of the horses or else animal welfare organizations can take up this job and work along with the owners.

Heroine – Movie Review

Just saw Heroine, and at the end of it the only thing I could think was WTF!!!! Actually there were part in the movie when I said exactly that… the movie should be renames as Psychotic Heroine, the lady just doesn’t know what she wants in her life. I guess Director Madhur Bhandarkar has portrayed a very low and disgusting image of the Film Industry. His previous movie Page 3 and Fashion were along the same lines, but it had some good things about the industry as well, we felt as if the industry is a mixture of good bad ugly, but that’s not the case with Heroine, it somehow portrays that everyone here are just there to create controversy, or are jealous about each other etc I am not saying that this doesn’t happen, but that’s not the only thing that happens.

Kareen Kapoor has ofcourse proved herself has a good actor, but her character in itself is very irritating and lost, but I will blame the director and the script for that and not her. Arjun Rampal well you just look drop down amazing though he doesn’t have much of a screen space he does make his mark.

And the last scene, just blew my mind off. Any damn illogical thing.. which for some reason I also found as an insult to the audience that goes to watch movies. They somehow potray that once there is a controversy about any movie the public is bound to go for the movie without even considering the whether  they actually want to see that movie or not. That’s like insulting the intellingence of the audience.

All in all, I was expecting a lot more than what I saw. After all the hype that was created the movie was a big disappointment.

Ferrari ki Sawaari – Movie Review

Ferrari ki Sawaari, what a refreshing movie to watch. A simple lovable story of an honest father his son and the grandpa who has his own lil story to enrich the overall plot of the movie.  The start of the movie was adorable portraying the love between father and son. The story also just glides without anything you shall feel stupid or illogical. The plus point of the movie is the simplicity of it ( I know I have used the word simple quite a lot of time here, but that’s how the movie is!!! ) I can’t think of any bad part in the movie, or something that I didn’t like.

The movie is entertaining from start to end. And with each scene the story grows not a single place where the movie is stagnant or foolish.  Even the typical Parsi language used adds to the authenticity of the movie.  The thing I liked the most was that there was no heroine in it as such, generally in bollywood movie it is kind of mandatory to have a female lead but here the main characters were the 3 generations of a family of course the other actors added to the movie and their work cannot be neglected. Overall all the actors complimented and supported each other and helped grow the story.

The director, actors, music composers all did equal justice to the movie. And that’s the reason why it is such a big hit. It’s a kind of a movie which you can watch anytime, no matter what your mood is and you’ll laugh, cry, smile and feel good immediately.

Old Songs are Always The Best :)

            For a few days now I have been travelling to Dombivali from Dadar almost everyday and sometimes ( or rather everytime ) the travelling is  really a painful job. Just because the station area is so damn crowded you don’t get a cab to the station directly nor do you get a cab immediately outside the station its always a long walk and then chase down for the cab. And the train journey itself is also weird. You don’t get fast trains easily so I opt for the slow train which is like an hour long journey. So I plugged in my earphones and on went the music.

            After like half hour of the today’s generation music with all dhoosh dhoosh dhoosh beats it all sounded like noise to me. I ended up pushing the next button more often even without completing the song, it was then when Raj Kapoor’s Pyaar Hua Iqraar Hua started playing and it was so soothing and good for the year that I made up a playlist with all the old songs and kept it playing on loop.

            Its not that I hate these new songs, ofcourse they are awesome! But sometimes Kishore Kumar’s Ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si is better than Bhag DK Bose for me. But sometimes it all becomes plain noise and somewhere the pure essence of good music is lost. The old songs have a mixture of everything good lyrics, good music, and  a nice soothing feel it gives you and if you have the video as well … well its just a treat for your eyes.

    

Petrol Price Hike – Look at The Bright Side

So the petrol prices are sky rocketing, and it is eventually going to affect about each and everything that we use in our day to day life.  Petrol prices kept going up all throughout this year but it went up  ` 1/- or so not  ` 7 /- that too overnight. People will start blaming the Government etc for the hike. Basically nothing is going to change unless every Indian protest against it and that wont ever happen because that’s the Indian mentality isn’t it? Who cares what is happening in the country? Is others are not speaking against it I would speak against it either. Anyway this is post is not about that, this post is just something that will make you look at the bright side of the petrol hike and maybe a bit of peace of mind ( because honestly for some reason since yesterday when I got to know about the price hike I have this unrest in my heart telling me this is not good at all for the future, things can go terribly bad. But maybe its just my imagination. )

1 – Less Traffic

            Have you looked at the traffic these days?? Almost in every part of the city?  Its basically because people use their vehicle even when it is not really needed.  

Which road would you rather drive on???

This??? 

Or this???

2 – Good for Health

            Walking and cycling is actually better for your health, so walk to that place which is 10mins from your house and use a cycle to reach a place which is half hour away.

3 – Pollution

            We all are aware that vehicles is one of the major reasons for air pollution. So I am looking forward to see a clearer sky in Mumbai. 

                                                                 

                                                                   4 – No Honking

            Honking causes noise pollution so that is also eliminated.

5 –  Less Road Accidents

            Road accidents generally happens because of rash driving so if there are less cars on the road It might also mean less accidents right?

6 – Carpools can be use

            If you just HAVE to reach your work place by a car, you can go by a carpool… save fuel!

7 – Save Natural Resource

            Petrol is a Natural Resource right? So save it… we are depleting earth of its natural Resources super quick.

8 – More Social Activity

            People who travel by Trains and Bus everyday to and fro work have a special set of friends known as “Train Friends ” and  “ Bus Friends ” so go on get your gang of Train Friends.

Okay this is the most I can think of for now… more on this later J

PS – I have to add this – I was just browsing Google for the pictures I have uploaded above and I happen to see some politician’s picture there who well are related to the price hike, I couldn’t stop myself from hating them from the bottom of my heart. 

Ishaqzaade - Movie Review

            Saw Ishqzaade today. And seriously the only good thing I found in the movie were the main characters, Parineeta Chopra did a good job and so did Arjun Kapoor, he very convincingly portrayed the character of a spoilt brat.

            The whole movie is only about two people who start of hating eachother and then fall in love with each other – yes, the typical love story now add some family enmity and opposition from them.  So the spoilt brat realizes that he should take charge of the situation and elopes with the girl. You get the idea right?

So over all ill rate it like 2.5/5. Only for the actors!!!

Satyamev Jayate

            Remember that time when every Sunday morning meant watching Mahabharat and Ramayana on television? Alas gone were those days, until today this very morning. I remember my grand father telling me that way back in times when they used to live in Girgaon, Mumbai every Sunday meant officially watching Mahabharata and Ramayana. Today however bought the same effect on the whole of India when almost everyone was glued to their Television screens to watch “Satyameva Jayate”.

            I had a meeting to attend today morning at 11am so I missed watching the show, also my phone was in my bag so I was basically out of touch from the everyone. I got out of the meeting at 1pm and the first thing I did was ask a friend how the show was, but there was no need to ask even before he replied back there was a hell lot of BBM status updates saying they loved the show, there were loads of tweets and facebook status confirming the same thing.  All I cared about then was to know when the repeat telecast is ( which I got to know its at 10pm tonight. :D ) yet I couldn’t control my curiosity and watched it online. And trust me when I say I was completely awed I don’t remember which show ever had made me feel so touched and so worried about my baby which is not even born yet esp when the segment came where people said that girls are bought and sold for marriage. I imagined that maybe 10years from now my daughter may not have the same independence and freedom and security I grew up with.

            And then my mom switched on the T.V and nothing could have irritated me more than that bloody television. News channels were broadcasting news about celebrity gossip and on set stories about the daily soap actors. It really made me wonder that the channel which is supposed to give us information which I just got off a renowned Bollywood actor is giving me all rubbish good for nothing information about celebrities for god sake leave that aside for entertainment channels you have different role to play here.

            But then again, media these days have forgotten the role of media altogether maybe there are some who still do quality journalism but I am sad to say that majority fails to do so. A famous newspaper’s editor once held a seminar which I had attended and he said so that news these days have become a business and its all about entertainment, its all about Demand and Supply.  People demand entertainment and news channels and newspapers to increase their T.R.P give them what they want instead of leaving out the entertainment quotient with the entertainment channels.

            Anyway coming back to the topic, the TV show “Satyamev Jayate” is indeed a nice concept and effort made by Aamir Khan and the whole team. I wonder whether Satyamev Jayate will create the same awareness as Rang De Basanti did back then… I really hope it does! J

Bollywood Remakes

       With the new trend of movie remakes that’s going on in Bollywood these days.. question such as the justice done to the old movies or that if it’s the right thing to do etc etc come up.. If you ask me .. my answer is whats wrong in remaking a movie?? I mean you are making it clear that it’s a remake that you are remaking the movie and making it more apt for the modern age..why should there be any controversy about it?? Its not like you are copying it and then not giving the original movie any credit.

       

        Don was initially made when I was not even born and I never really saw the movie, ofcourse I was aware that its an awesome movie and a must watch but somehow maybe due to the generation gap or I didn’t want to watch old movie I never saw it.. same thing with sholay (I still haven’t watched sholay in one go, always saw it in bits and parts) it happens because those movie never connected to me. But when Ram Gopal Verma ki AAG was due release I had this sudden desire to watch the original sholay, and then RGV ki Aag failed miserably that just supported the fact that sholay is an all time classic. Same with Don, I had never seen the original Don but I was super excited to watch Farhan Akhtar’s Don because it connected to me.. being a sharukh fan I was all set to watch it first day first show.. and now same will happen with Agneepath.. I am already downloading the original Agneepath so that I know if I should appreciate or criticize the new Agneepath.

       

         

         But all said and done, I am always for the Remakes of the movie… sometimes I wonder that my kids wont grow up with cartoons like Tom and Jerry or noddy or mickey and Donald or duck tales or our Disney princess snow white, Cinderella, rapunzell etc…and it upsets the hell out of me.. but if they remake it and make it more apt for the generation next maybe they’ll like it maybe they will grow up with just the right cartoons and bed time stories and not the silly dhishum dhishum cartoons they watch these days or the video games they are addicted to these days

Flash Mob at CST Station

"Rang De Basanti" song started playing at CST railway station.. and a girl just started dancing to the tune and before we know it 100s of people joined in and danced for four and a half minute.  This is such a novel idea just dancing together with people who you don't know personally but maybe share the same 5.33pm thane fast. Also this Flash Mob concept shows that anything can happen in Mumbai... also the bonding that can be seen between the citizens is really needed. Sometimes when everything is just routine and no extra spice to it we tend to start cribbing about each and everything around but something like this that happens really just makes you feel good inside though i wasn't there for the dance but just looking at this video makes me feel good, at one point of time i also had tears in my eye :) ... it somehow shows me that little bit of Mumbai Spirit which i had  criticized a bit in my previous blog post and honestly i somehow am sad about the fact that i was no where attached to any of this. 

I am a die hard bollywood movie fan, and you see these kind of things in Karan Johar movies, where the hero / heroine starts singing about her new found love and starts dancing and everyone just somehow joins in and everything looks so sweet and goodie good..i always wondered does this really happen? I mean 100s of people dancing together on the road except of Ganpati Visarjan, Holi and when India wins the World Cup. And this incident is just picked out from my dream also the song is very close to we... i just freaking wish i was there!!!! 

I also want to thank all those people who did this Flash Mob, its real hardwork guys to do so much and also get the permission for all this... and you guys did a wonderful job :)

Rockstar

So i saw Rockstar yesterday, and i was really very disappointed with it. I had very high expectations from the movie and somehow i came out of the theater disappointed. 

The start was good, and the everything was in order before the interval... the dialogues were nice and made you laugh, Ranbir was at his level best, and it was a delight to see Shammi Kapoor on screen, A R Rahman has done magic with his music once again, a few scenes were a delight to watch, esp when the manager drags Ranbir from the brothel and tries to explain him how he is going off track when the whole street is dying to just shake hands with jordan and ranbir is trying to argue back how lonely he is...that scene really stayed with me.. also when he meets up his college friends and all they care about is taking picture with the famous rockstar Jordan, while is dying to share is lonelyness with them.well thats so true, we all forget that the rich and famous are not just some showpiece to take picture with they also have their own set or worries and problems... but thats about it. 

The part after the interval was bit of a puzzle for me, where i was constantly trying to figure things out. yes the screenplay and the new way of showcasing done was a novel idea but would have worked out well had they worked better on it so as to give out a clear picture, and not just a vague idea. the story never grew towards the end, it was the same what was in the first 15mins post - interval.. repeated again and again.

The end was abrupt and i guess instead of the repetitive  scene towards the last 20mins of the movie they could have used it to improvise the end. 

the silver lining is,  i liked the over all look of the movie,, Ranbir's clothes, the rock concerts and the beautiful places it was shot in.  Ranbir has really evolved from the cute sawariya boy to the rockstar Janardhan Jakkar aka JJ aka Jordan. 

Media et Bollywood

          News channels and News papers generally are the mediums through which we make the common man aware of the happening in the society and around the world. Where the important news are published so that people get to know what is right and what is wrong.

          Ofcourse always reading the very serious news is not very exciting, that’s when Page 3 comes in, where news about your favorite celeb is published, their interviews and future projects etc etc.  But the problem arises when the personal space of the celeb is not taken care of by the journalists. It hardly matters what they are doing in their personal life, who they go out with or who they are dating or who broke up with whom. As a media person every journalist should keep in mind that the celebs are not public property to print anything about them. They also have a personal life, a personal space which should not be disturbed for no reason or rather for the sake of pure sadist pleasure.

          Instead of doing this in depth research on some film actress, wouldn’t it be better if they use the same skill and hard work to bring out the corrupt doings of some politician??

          Another problem is, when the whole essence of a newspaper is lost because of the increasing number of page 3 articles.  There are some news channels and news paper which are popular only because of their page 3 contents, which is really sad. But the thing is they use it as their strategy, they cook up some scandalizing story about them and create a bigger buzz about it.

          According to me, there should be a balance between the two, real news and the page 3 content.

No one killed jessica

I saw no one killed jessica yesterday and it was just too good the director has done a superb job. If you have seen aamir then you probably know what I am talking about that guy is just too good and he has done the same justice with this movie.

Vidya is also very good in her non glamorous role and a very down to earth character she has very nicely adapted the character and gone to the very depth of it same goes with rani she has also done a very nice role. The new girl myra is also very good and very cute!

The start and the end is also good. Also the reference to kargil war, the plane hijack and then the rang de basanti was mind blowing. Also few of the montages the steady cams and many other scenes have been done beautifully



According to me it gets 4 out of 5.

Let the magic begin!

I recently say harry potter and the deathly hallows I, and i just have
one word for it "AWESOME". it was just so brilliant i guess one of the
best potter movie, my favorite still remains the prisoner of azkaban.
the movie starts with a brilliant show of how the three of them leave
their house and the part where hermoine uses "Memory erasing charm "
on her parents shows the director had gone in depth and had made it a
point not to miss out on technicalities like he did in the previous
part. the ministry part and harry saying "i musn't tell lies" to
umbridge sent chills down my spine. dobby and kreacher are just too
cute and bellatrix is as usual scary and hot the malfoy manor also was
nice, and the story of the beedle the bard you'll just loveee the
animation, and yes how can i forget nagini she is awesome cant wait to
watch in 3d.
when i first heard that movie was coming in two parts i had a problem
wondering if they'll make it right and i am happy to say that they
gave a perfect start and an apt ending!!!

Aamir Khan and college???

i am watching dil chata hai now, was just wondering when i was in my primary school i used to sing "papa kehte hai" and say ill  be an astronaut when i grow up, aamir khan in that song had just graduated from college and was about step in the outer world.. and again when i went in secondary school, dil chata hai came.. where he was again in college enjoying his college life to the fullest!!! 

then at last when i was about to finish my school ie my 10th, did he finally finish his college as DJ in rang de basanti though he never left the campus.. and now when i am in COLLEGE, he again came back in 3 idiots.. 

what the hell is going on with aamir khan and college??? :O
